Dehradun/Rudrapur: The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested two people from Sitarganj town of Udham Singh Nagar district for allegedly manufacturing fake herbal drugs at a rented home, on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday.
According to police, the accused, identified as Salman and Faizan (only first names shared by STF), hailed from Pilibhit, UP, and were making fake health supplements and medicines for various diseases to sell online.
Ayush Agrawal, senior superintendent of police, STF, while speaking to TOI said that the two were arrested while acting on an input from the informants. “Acting on the input, it was found that they were running two Facebook pages claiming to offer herbal health supplements and medicines to cure male sexual ailments. They had also posted videos of some clerics explaining the efficacy of their drugs to lure the potential buyers while mentioning their phone numbers to facilitate them to place orders,” said Agrawal.
“They were putting some powdered concoction in small boxes and then sending them to the buyers through couriers for the last four months. That concoction didn’t undergo any prior laboratory tests. Following their arrest, we have also seized 500 boxes of fake supplements and three gunny bags of raw material being used to manufacture them,” said Agrawal. It is second such incident in 10 days in the state.
