Two Arrested With 19,900 Banned Cough Syrup Worth About A Crore Near Mahananda Barrage In Fulbari

Fulbari: The New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police achieved a significant milestone and successfully seized a container truck loaded with thousands of bottles of banned cough syrup. The accused driver, Laheq Ahmed, and co-driver, Nadir Ali, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, were subsequently arrested.

According to police sources, on Wednesday evening, the police launched a tip-off operation and seized a cargo truck in the area adjacent to Mahananda Barrage on the Fulbari-Ghoshpukur bypass road. During the search, the officials recovered 19,900 bottles of banned Codeine syrup from the vehicle. The estimated market value of the recovered cough syrup is approximately Rs 1 crore.

During the interrogation, the arrested accused admitted to engaging in smuggling the contraband from Uttar Pradesh to Assam via Fulbari. On Thursday, the accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri Court. Meanwhile, the police are engaged in further investigation of the incident.
