15 lose eye-sight at AMC-run Nagri hospital in Gujrat

In hope of better vision, around 15 persons, including a 10-year-old boy from Madhya Pradesh had come to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) run Nagri hospital. But all of them lost their eyesight after being given an injection as part of their treatment. Authorities baffled after report of the tragic incident went public. The stock of the injection named Avastin will be sent for laboratory tests, and further course of action will be decided on the outcome of the lab report. A team of expert doctors will observe the conditions of all patients till they improve..There are seven patients who are gradually recovering, but another eight, who have critical swelling in their eyes, are likely to be operated on Thursday or Friday. Ayush Bawar, the 10-year-old boy from Harda district of Madhya Pradesh couldn’t see with his right eye, initially, and he came to the Nagri hospital after his left eye, too, started losing vision. Bawar’s maternal grandfather, Shivnath Yogi, said, “I brought Ayush here after he complained of blurred vision in his left eye. ” Shantilal Parmar, 64, too, lost his right eye after receiving the injection. Parmar, a resident of Uttam nagar area of the city , said that he’d come to the government-run hospital for free treatment, because his two sons depend upon daily wages. “He suffers from diabetes. Following which, he had swelling in cornea. We came here to solve one problem, but have now got into something worse,” his wife Savita Parmar lamented. Gaurishankar Sharma, 85, lost his right eye after receiving the same injection. His grandson Ashutosh Sharma had put his faith in the AMC-run hospital. Dinesh Thakor, 34, only son of two daily wagers of Naranpura area, was losing his vision due to diabetes.
