COVID-appropriate behaviour at hill stations a must to control third wave: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his interaction with the Chief Ministers of the North-Eastern states on Tuesday cautioned against crowding at hill stations and emphasized on prioritising practice of COVID appropriate behaviour, vaccine administration and continuing the strategy of testing for prevention and treatment.

During the virtual meeting, the Prime Minister, said, “We need to understand that the third wave will not come on its own. Experts are repeatedly warning against carelessness and crowding as they can lead to a massive surge in cases. The main question in our mind should be how to prevent the third wave.”

Speaking on the rising COVID cases, PM Modi expressed his worry over the growing number of cases in some districts and stressed on taking strict actions and making use of micro containment protocol in dealing with the situation.

Noting the fast mutating nature of the virus, the Prime Minister advised strict monitoring of the mutation and keeping track of all variants. Further emphasizing on the practice of COVID appropriate behaviour, vaccine administration and continuing the strategy of testing for prevention and treatment.

He also lauded the people, health workers and the governments of the Northeast for their hard work in the fight against the pandemic and creating infrastructure for testing, treatment and vaccination despite the difficult terrain of the states.

Ensuring the level of preparedness before the next COVID wave, PM Modi underlined the need to establish temporary hospital due to the geographical situation of the northeast, complete the process of establishing oxygen plants and prepare trained manpower required for these plants, ICU wards and new machines.
