Central Govt Launches Ayush Export Promotion Council

Mumbai : The Central government has launched Ayush Export Promotion Council (EPC) with an aim to oversee exports of products of Ayurveda, Homoeopathic, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Unani systems and address trade issues pertaining to them.

The Ayush EPC was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on April 20, 2022.

The council was created by the Ministry of Ayush in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, along with other stakeholders such as the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Invest India.

It will have an exclusive focus on the implementation of trade-related initiatives and easing of trade issues while representing the interest of the Ayush exporters in all interactions with domestic and global stakeholders. The council would monitor exports of Ayush drugs and even services of the Ayush systems, said Modi.

Companies manufacturing Ayush products hailed the launch of Ayush EPC.

Said SK Dokania, director, Ayusri Health Products Limited, “It is a step in the right direction. The council will provide a huge opportunity for the growth of Ayush products as well as generate employment. It will spur global market entry, encourage domestic players to enhance quality standards and production capacity.”

Besides Ayush EPC, the Prime Minister has also inaugurated a slew of digital initiatives taken by the Ministry of Ayush including Ayush Information Hub, Ayush next, Ayusoft, Ayush GIS, Ayurgyan etc.

Ayush Information Hub has been set up to disseminate all authentic and verified information related to Ayush with the Ministry of Ayush and organisations under the Ministry.

Ayush GIS is a mobile application that has facility to enter information in predefined forms with regard to Ayush health facilities, Ayush doctors, Ayush colleges and Ayush students. Ayurgyan is meant for capacity building for Ayush and continued medical education under Ayush, along with a component for research and innovation.

The size of the Ayush services sector in India consisting of hospitals, day-care facilities, clinics and dispensaries is projected to be US$ 6 billion in 2022. Within health services’ export earnings, Ayush ranks among the top five health services. Medical value travel (MVT) in India is expected to grow to US$ 13 billion in 2022.

The Ayush industry has grown 17 per cent per year since 2014 and it is projected to be 23 billion dollars by the end of this year. That is why the entrepreneurs are being attracted in this sector for big investment.
