Dehradun Police Seize Over 600 Fake Degrees Of 5 States’ Universities, Ukraine Varsity

DEHRADUN : The special investigation team (SIT) of Dehradun police, in its ongoing probe into the fake Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree case, has seized over 600 fake medical degrees and related certificates of different universities in five states and one state medical university in Odessa, Ukraine, from the house of the arrested mastermind Imlakh Khan.

A native of Muzaffarnagar in UP, Khan was earlier arrested by the state special task force (STF) from Ajmer, Rajasthan, where he was hiding after the agency had exposed his racket by arresting his brother, Imran, and two fake ayurveda doctors in Dehradun, where they were practising in their respective clinics after buying fake BAMS degree from him.

Daleep Singh Kunwar, senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, while speaking to media at district police headquarters on Tuesday said, “During the ongoing probe, the SIT recovered over 600 fake degrees, marksheets and related documents of different universities and institutions of five states – Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Delhi.” Kunwar also informed that police also recovered photocopies of a diploma from Odessa State Medical University of Ukraine.

“However, it is a part of investigation as to whether Khan was also selling fake medical degrees. Apart from this, police also recovered 75 fake registration certificates of Medical Council of India (MCI), Delhi,” said Kunwar.

The SSP also informed that amid the ongoing probe, the SIT arrested the twelfth accused in the case, a fake ayurveda doctor from Tehri Garhwal district.

“The accused was identified as Rajendra Prasad Uniyal. During questioning, it was found that he had completed Bachelor of Eastern Medicine and Surgery in 1991 after which he was practising Unani medicine in Tehri Garhwal. Later in 2017, he met Khan and bought a fake BAMS degree for Rs 6 lakh,” said Kunwar. The SIT has a list of at least 36 fake ayurveda practitioners in the state who had bought the fake BAMS degree from Khan for around Rs 6.50 lakh. Of the 36, police have arrested nine so far.
