POLISH HELD AT IGI FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

New Delhi

A 37-year-old Polish woman was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday after she was identified as a wanted accused for drug trafficking in her country.

Police said that a red corner notice has been issued against the woman, who holds Nepalese citizenship. The woman was identified as Ewa Rai, married to Sharun Bahadur Rai, a Nepalese national.

The matter came to light when the woman reached immigration office at the airport and was identified as wanted. “The woman is wanted in Poland and on the request of CBI, a Red Coroner Notice has been issued by the Interpol. She is suspected to be a part of some big international trafficking rackets,” said DK Gupta, DCP IGI.

The woman was sent in judicial custody, and CBI will later take custody of her, after which she will be deported. Police said that Rai had married a Nepalese man to change her citizenship in order to avoid arrest, and had been living with him in Kathmandu for past few years. A case has been registered.
