Woman Among Four Who Injected Patient Of PGIMER With Unknown Substance, Arrested In Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police on Tuesday arrested a woman and three other persons for their alleged involvement in injecting a patient admitted at PGIMER, Chandigarh with unknown substances during the treatment with an intention to kill her. The accused have been identified as Jaspreet Kaur, a native of Sangrur, Punjab; Jasmeet Singh, Mandeep Singh and Buta Singh, natives of Patiala. The patient was in the trauma ICU of PGIMER and was being treated for puerperal sepsis with acute kidney injury.

In a statement, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said that the victim was admitted to the Emergency Main ICU on November 6 and was shifted to Gynae Ward on November 13. On November 16, a complaint was received in which the complainant reported that her sister-in-law Harmeet Kaur was admitted and was under treatment in the Gynecology ward on the third floor of Nehru Hospital, B block. On November 15, at about 11.05 PM, one unidentified woman came and told her sister-in-law that she needed to administer an injection to Harmeet Kaur and injected her with an unknown substance. When she enquired about the injection and the name of the woman and on being questioned, immediately she left without disclosing her name. After that, her sister-in-law’s health started deteriorating. She suspected that this unknown lady injected her sister-in-law with the intention of killing her. The complainant also provided a photo of the suspected lady, which was clicked by her at that time, she added.

The SSP further said that acting on the complaint; teams were formed to crack the case. After conducting a thorough investigation, a team headed by Inspector Malkiat Singh arrested the accused Jaspreet Kaur, who injected the unknown substance into the victim. During interrogation, she confessed that she had injected the victim at the direction of Jasmeet Singh (Brother of victim), Mandeep Singh and Buta Singh. All three accused were also arrested on her instance and during preliminary interrogation, it came on record that the family of the victim girl was annoyed as the victim solemnized her marriage with Gurwinder Singh without the consent of her family. The brother of the victim consistently threatened the victim and her husband and indicated their intention to harm both, whenever the opportunity arose. The accused Jaspreet Kaur produced was before the Court which gave 2 days of police custody.
