Woman’s Eyes Removed During Autopsy In Budaun, Two Doctors Booked

Budaun:  A case was registered against two doctors of a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district who performed post-mortem on the body of a woman whose eyes were found to be removed, a senior official said on Tuesday.

The body of Puja (20) was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in the Mujaria area’s Rasula village of the district on Sunday. Her parents have alleged that she was killed by her in-laws for dowry, officials said.

When the body, which was sent for post-mortem examination on Monday, was handed over to her family members, they found that the eyes had been removed.

Taking note of the family’s allegations that the eyes were removed during the autopsy, another post-mortem was conducted and the organs were found missing, Budaun District Magistrate Manoj Kumar said.

A team comprising Additional District Magistrate (Administration) VK Singh, Circle Officer (City) Alok Mishra and Chief Medical Officer Dr Pradeep Varshney formed to investigate the matter will submit a report on the matter within 24 hours, District Magistrate Kumar added.

The FIR was registered at the Civil Lines police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act against the team of doctors that conducted the first post-mortem based on a complaint lodged by Puja’s brother Rajkumar, he said.

Once the investigation report is submitted, strict action will be taken against those found guilty and they will not be spared, Circle Officer Mishra said.

The woman’s family demanded strict action against the doctors and staff members of the hospital, alleging that they were involved in organ trafficking.

Initially, the family refused to perform her last rites but cremated the body on Tuesday afternoon after the second post-mortem was conducted and the FIR was registered against the doctors, the police said.
