16 Quacks Nabbed In Surat, Medicines Seized

Surat: The Special Operations Group (SOG) police raided several dispensaries in the Pandesara and Dindoli areas and arrested 16 quacks. The quacks operated as doctors and treated the locals by giving medicines, injections, and other treatments.

Those arrested are mostly natives of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.

The SOG arrested Sushant Bishwas (44), Shyamnarayan Gupta (UP), Lakhendra Ray (36), Brijbhan Pal (36), Ravishankar Bind (33), Amiya Pal (45), Bablu Shukla (37), Vishwajit Bala (31), Santosh Jayswal (37), Sanjay Maurya (44), Bimal Chakraborty (46), Mukesh Sharma (40), Raman Zaa (34), Dipak Bishwa (43), Hridaynarayan Patel, and Vishram Patil (57).

Police seized medicines, injections, syrups, and other medical materials worth Rs 2.35 lakhs. Police have also sought the help of the Surat district health administration, as officials Dr. Mahendra Patel, Dr. Kaushik Mehta, Kajal Madhikar, and Dilip Kotak have also joined the police team in the raid.

According to police, most of these quacks have studied till class 10 or 12th. Some of them had worked with genuine clinics as office boys or compounders and learned the basics of medicines. After that, they started the dispensaries in slum or labour areas.
