Drug Inspector Arrested In Bribery Sting

Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Drug Inspector Mahesh Bakshi of the Food and Drugs Department, Vastrapur, for allegedly demanding Rs 8,000 from a medical store owner. Bakshi threatened to fabricate a false case against the owner if he refused to pay.

Earlier, the ACB had nabbed the middleman, Manish Thakkar, who had come to collect the bribe. Forensic examination of Bakshi’s two mobile phones confirmed Bakshi and Thakkar were in contact, leading to Bakshi’s arrest.

According to ACB sources, Bakshi visited the complainant’s medical store on June 22, 2024, and demanded a bribe of Rs 8,000. He instructed the owner to hand over the money to Thakkar. Unwilling to comply, the complainant reported the incident to the ACB.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB set a trap and caught Thakkar accepting the bribe on Bakshi’s behalf.

Investigators traced Bakshi’s mobile phone location to the medical store on the same date the complainant mentioned a drug inspector’s visit. Additionally, CCTV cameras from the nearby Apollo Hospital captured Bakshi’s presence.
