BALANGIR: A joint team of Titlagarh and Chhattisgarh police raided a medicine shop in Bolangir district late last night for allegedly selling duplicate medicines.
The crackdown from the police came following the allegations that the medicine shop named Ayesha Medical Store was supplying duplicate medicine to neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
The raid was carried out in presence of the magistrate, sources informed, adding that, the police have informed the Directorate of Drug Control, Odisha about the incident.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the sale of duplicate medicine in the market is nothing new in Odisha.
In 2023, spurious blood pressure medicines ‘Telma 40’ and Telma AM were seized in Cuttack. Subsequently, two accused allegedly involved in supplying spurious hypertension medicines to distributors in Cuttack were arrested from Bihar.
Moreover, duplicate Clavam 625 capsules were also seized in Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda in 2023.
Besides, Purighat police had recovered fake drugs worth Rs 2 lakh from a pharmaceutical distributor in Cuttack in 2023.
