Drugs Worth Rs 1.5 Lakh Seized From 50 Gyms

Thiruvananthapuram:  Health Minister Veena George announced that the State Drugs Control Department has conducted special inspections across the state to detect illegal drugs in gyms and prevent their misuse. Shocking information has emerged that the use of stimulants and steroids is increasing in gyms.

Drugs worth Rs 1.5 lakh were seized in a raid conducted at around 50 gyms. The Drugs Control Department conducted the raid based on a tip-off that doping drugs were being illegally distributed to customers at gyms in December as part of bodybuilding competitions. The minister also stated that cases have been registered against these gyms and strict legal action is being taken.

The drugs seized from the gyms include drugs used for various diseases. The department officials seized a large stock of drugs from the house of a gym trainer in Thrissur. All the drugs seized contained steroids. These are drugs that should be taken only as per the doctor’s prescription. Only authorized pharmacies are authorized to sell such drugs. The use of such drugs can cause serious health problems.

Minister Veena George has directed to intensify inspections focusing on gyms to prevent such incidents from recurring. Inspections were conducted in Thrissur today. As per the minister’s instructions, the department has also decided to conduct awareness classes to create awareness among the youth about the ill effects of such drugs.

50 gyms in Kerala were raided by the Drugs Control Department, seizing stimulants and steroids worth over Rs. 1.5 lakh. The raids were conducted following reports of increasing use of these substances in gyms, particularly in connection with bodybuilding competitions.
