Antibiotic injection at district hospital leaves six children sick, one sent to PBM

Bikaner:  Six children’s health declined after receiving the newly supplied Cefotaxime antibiotic injections at the district hospital on Friday night.

These children, aged between two and eight years, began shivering shortly after the injections were administered. They also started vomiting and crying, which alarmed their family members. At that time, only the nursing staff was present in the hospital. The anxious parents alerted the police, and the superintendent was summoned. Superintendent Dr. Sunil Harsh arrived at the scene.

He promptly contacted pediatrician Dr. Praveen Chaturvedi and the on-duty doctor. Meanwhile, the family members caused a commotion at the location. The police intervened to manage the situation. When one child’s condition deteriorated, he was transferred to PBM Hospital. The remaining five children received treatment with steroids and fever medication. By midnight, their conditions had improved. A total of ten children were admitted to the pediatric ward of the district hospital, six of whom had received antibiotic injections, which led to their health issues.

Salma, the mother of one of the affected children, reported that the children suddenly began vomiting, their bodies became stiff, and their fevers spiked. When she alerted the nursing staff, they seemed unable to comprehend the situation. This caused fear among all the family members and the children. Once the doctor and other staff arrived, treatment for the children commenced. The hospital administration stated that the injection had been tested in the morning, but they will still verify its quality.
