Three arrested for illegal sale of mephentermine sulphate injections in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Three persons were arrested by the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force (Rajendranagar Zone) for selling mephentermine sulphate injections, with police uncovering an online procurement network through which the injections were allegedly bought in bulk and resold at nearly 20 times the purchase price.

The Task Force apprehended Mohammad Aejaz, 23, at Nawab Saheb Kunta in Falaknuma on Saturday (August 15) and seized mephentermine injections and used syringes. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed that he procured the injections from Mohammed Zuber alias Zubair, 30, who was allegedly the main supplier. Police also arrested Zuber and his associate Mohd. Saif Khan, 20, in the operation.

According to the police, Zuber allegedly sourced the injections through IndiaMART by placing orders online. The consignments were delivered through third-party courier services. He allegedly bought a pack of 30 injections for around ₹5,000 and sold individual injections for about ₹1,000, making substantial illegal profits.

The Task Force said its investigation revealed that Aejaz was involved in selling and peddling the injections, while Saif Khan allegedly assisted in supplying them. Another alleged source, Shubham Rajput of Rajasthan, is absconding.

Police initially reported the seizure of 60 vials of mephentermine sulphate injections and 46 used syringes from Aejaz. The final seizure listed by the Task Force included 110 vials, 25 syringes and three mobile phones.

A case was registered at Falaknuma police station under Sections 318(4), 278 and 152 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 18(c) read with 27(b)(ii) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Police said Aejaz, who works at a cloth store in KPB Complex at Charminar, had several previous cases against him, including cases involving theft, causing hurt and a murder case. Zuber was previously booked in a case at Chatrinaka police station under provisions of the BNS and Drugs and Cosmetics Act relating to the illegal sale and possession of medicines.
