Aakash Healthcare registers 72 % Rise in Vaccination Volumes Post- Covid

Hospital Group’s Data released on National Vaccination Day also underlines Sharp Rise in Adult Vaccination

New Delhi: Post –Covid, Vaccination seems steadily going north. It clearly emerges that the awareness triggered by pandemic pushed more people to prioritize protection against preventable diseases. Aakash Healthcare’s data released on the National Vaccination Day bears it out. Its data underlines 72 % rise in vaccination volumes post Covid. Adults lead the rally with sharp rise in vaccination. Pediatric vaccination remains strong.

Aakash Healthcare has released a comprehensive analysis of its vaccination data from FY 2017–18 to FY 2025–26, revealing a significant rise in vaccine awareness and uptake, particularly among adults in the post-pandemic era.

According to the data, Aakash Healthcare administered a cumulative 123,941 vaccine doses across paediatric and adult populations over the nine-year period. Vaccination volumes reached their highest level in FY 2024–25 with 18,188 doses, reflecting growing public awareness about preventive healthcare and the importance of timely immunization.

The data highlights a strong long-term upward trend in immunisztion uptake. Average annual vaccination volumes rose from 9,902 doses in the pre-COVID period (FY17–FY20) to 17,011 doses in the post-COVID period (FY22–FY26), marking a 71.8% increase.

Commenting on the findings, Dr. Aashish Chaudhry, Managing Director, Aakash Healthcare , said, “The COVID-19 pandemic fundamentally changed how people view preventive healthcare. Our vaccination data clearly shows that adults are now far more proactive about protecting themselves against preventable diseases. Vaccines that were traditionally associated with childhood immunisation, such as influenza, pneumococcal, and hepatitis, are increasingly being adopted by adults as well. This shift is extremely encouraging because adult immunisation is a critical yet often overlooked pillar of public health.”

Dr Ashish further added, “On National Vaccination Day, it is important to remember that vaccines are among the most powerful tools in modern medicine. Increasing awareness about life-course immunisation will be essential in reducing disease burden and strengthening community health in the years ahead.”

Adult Vaccination Awareness Sees Major Shift

One of the most significant findings from the analysis is the sharp rise in adult vaccination following the COVID-19 pandemic. Adult vaccines such as influenza, pneumococcal, hepatitis B, typhoid, and HPV have seen steady growth in demand as people increasingly prioritise preventive healthcare.

Average adult vaccine doses increased by 63.3%, from 3,390 annually in the pre-COVID era to 5,535 doses per year in the post-COVID period.

Adult vaccinations accounted for 37% of total doses in the latest fiscal year, demonstrating growing awareness and acceptance of vaccination beyond childhood immunisation.

Doctors emphasise that preventive vaccination among adults helps reduce hospitalisations, long-term complications, and the spread of infectious diseases within communities, making it an important public health strategy.

Paediatric Vaccination Remains Strong

Paediatric vaccination continues to remain the backbone of immunisation services, accounting for 63% of the latest financial year’s vaccination volumes.

Average annual paediatric doses increased from 6,457 in the pre-COVID era to 11,391 in the post-COVID period, marking a 76.4% increase as parents increasingly prioritised routine immunisation schedules and preventive healthcare for their children.

The most commonly administered vaccines across the period included those for pneumococcal infections, tuberculosis (BCG), influenza, tetanus, hepatitis B, rotavirus, and MMR, reflecting both routine childhood immunisation and preventive adult healthcare needs.

Experts also emphasised the broader public health benefits of vaccination. The data suggests that the pandemic has accelerated a broader shift toward preventive medicine, with individuals and families becoming more conscious about immunisation as a key component of long-term health protection. Vaccination not only protects individuals from serious infections but also helps reduce the overall disease burden on communities by strengthening collective immunity.

Doctors highlighted that immunisation should be viewed as a lifelong health practice rather than something limited to childhood. Maintaining updated vaccination schedules for both children and adults can play a crucial role in preventing disease outbreaks, reducing hospitalisations, and building a healthier population.
