COVID Vaccination is where your home is, a Unique Initiative in Delhi

New Delhi:Sanjeevani @ Your Doorstep’-first of its kind Covid vaccination drive- achieved a milestone today by inoculating over 6,000 people including 150 pregnant in the last 30 days. On June 26, the Drive was initiated as a collaborative effort of Nurture IVF, a leading fertility clinic of India and Udaan Charitable Foundation with support from the West Delhi administration to vaccinate citizens especially from vulnerable groups and those who find it difficult to visit vaccination centres in and around the capital. The drive continues in different parts of the city.

Those vaccinated so far come from several different groups such as CRPF personnel and their families (300), Tihar Jail residents, transgenders (600), differently-abled women, people residing in Chuna Bhati slum area of Kriti Nagar(2,000), and crowded markets of West Delhi. This week, the drive focused on vaccinating pregnant women (150) who are at a higher risk due to various reasons.

“So far, we have vaccinated nearly 150 pregnant women and the number is expected to go up in the coming days as the drive continues to focus on them. This subgroup (Pregnant women) of people potentially form a large population, a high-risk population with decreased immunity so they should be vaccinated as a priority at the earliest. We are making all efforts in this direction,” said Dr Archana Dhawan Bajaj, Director, Nurture IVF.

The first of its kind drive aims to cover slums, cluster areas, residential areas, marketplaces and other places in West Delhi. Furthermore, the drive aspires to cover Central and North East Delhi in the following months.

“The second wave of the pandemic had hit our lives hard and experts strongly recommend vaccine as the only weapon alongside Covid appropriate behaviour to safeguards ourselves against the virus. We are trying to cover as many as people especially from vulnerable and high-risk groups,” said Umang Bajaj Vice President, BJYM, BJP, Karol Bagh District.

The vaccination drive has full support from the local administration with the Office of District Magistrate, West Delhi, supervising the entire program. Moreover, the term “Sanjeevani” is coined by Dr Harshvardhan, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Science & Tech, Earth Sciences who has been working tirelessly to manage the pandemic.

Sanjeevani @ Your Doorstep is the first-ever social initiative in West Delhi where a mobile vaccination ambulance is fully equipped with Covid-19 vaccine and medical staff including a team of doctors. The team visits vaccination sites near the doorsteps of the people for free Covid-19 vaccination to vaccinate pre-registered as well as walk-in residents.

Vaccination is an integral part of the comprehensive strategy of the government for containment and management of the pandemic. Sharing his views on the said program, Harish Sahni, President of Udaan Charitable Foundation said, “these doses need to be made available to people at their comfort to fulfil the need of the hour and Sanjeevani @ Your Doorstep is a small step in the direction to strengthen the world largest vaccination drive.”
