Chandigarh : Haryana Government has given additional charge to three IAS and one IFS. The Food and Drug Administration, which is probing Sonepat-based company Maiden Pharma, which makes deadly cough syrup, has got new commissioners. The government has appointed IAS Ashok Meena as the commissioner.
This post was lying vacant since long, due to which the functioning of the department had become very weak, all the work was derailed. This can be gauged from the fact that the Chief Minister’s flying squad had to handle the quality check of sweets and other food items during the festive season of Diwali.
After the appointment of the commissioner, drug manufacturing and quality checks of food items are expected to accelerate. The work of monitoring the Sonipat-based company Maiden Pharma, which makes the deadly drug, is also with the Food Drug Administration. In The Gambia, 66 children were killed by taking the syrup of this company, after which the department has also investigated the entire records of the company.
Ashok Meena has served in the Chief Minister’s Office and now he also has the responsibility of Excise and Taxation Commissioner. He is counted among the tactful and tough officers. After taking over his charge, major changes can be seen in the Department of Drugs and Administration. There is every hope of cracking down on those manufacturing wrong medicines and selling contaminated food items.
