First National policy to reduce Drug Demands

With the rising addiction to drugs among Indians made the government take an action to get country free from drug addiction. Home Minister Rajnath Singh headed a group of ministers (GoM) and approved the policy.  The final step will be taken by the ministry of social justice to bring this policy before the Cabinet.

This policy proposes that all government hospitals and accreditation of de-addiction centers have specialist doctors and facilities to treat addicts. Government sources said that this policy is to benefit highly afflicted and underserved districts where a network system is required to treat addicted women and children and to stop increasing number of drug addicts.

The major thing that will play a good role is data collection, so government firstly collect data from all states and identify areas where the high number of drug abuse cases and are underserved by the current healthcare system.

The government also making plans to provide training to the doctors in all the government hospitals over the next five years to treat addicts of substance abuse. The proposed policy aims to ensure adequate facilities in all government hospitals by 2022.
