Four-month-old boy dies after vaccination in Jammikunta

KARIMNAGAR:  A four-month-old boy died an hour after being administered a vaccine, triggering allegations from parents that the death was caused by a reaction. Doctors, however, denied the claim.

The boy, son of Lingala Anji and Harshitha from Papakkapalli village in Jammikunta mandal, was taken to Vavilala Primary Health Centre on Saturday, where he was given RVV-2 and Penta-2 vaccinations.

After returning home, the child fainted. The parents rushed him to a private hospital in Jammikunta, from where he was shifted to Hanumakonda hospital. He, however, died during treatment.

Family members confronted PHC Medical Officer Dr Varuna, alleging the vaccine caused the death as the boy had no prior health problems.

Dr Varuna clarified that there was no issue with the vaccine, noting that two other children received doses from the same batch on Wednesday without any complications. She said a post-mortem would reveal the exact cause of death if the family had doubts.
