Hyderabad police bust illegal Oxytocin injections sale in Hyderabad, apprehends three

HYDERABAD: The Task Force South-West Zone, in collaboration with the Mangalhat police station, conducted a raid on Banwarlilal Suresh Kumar Bansal near Jet Cafe in Old Mallepally, Hyderabad, targeting the illegal sale of counterfeit Oxytocin injections at inflated prices to desperate customers. During the operation, the police seized a significant quantity of Phenol I.P injections and apprehended three individuals.

Oxytocin, primarily used to facilitate milk let-down in cows and buffaloes by inducing intra-mammary pressure, has been banned by the government to prevent its misuse in the veterinary field, where farmers and dairy owners exploit it to extract milk from cattle.

The main accused Lala Babu Yadav alias Bunty, devised a scheme to produce counterfeit Oxytocin injections by diluting Phenol I.P (CARBOLIC ACID CRYSTAL I.P), a highly toxic substance, with acetic acid and water. Phenol, generally inaccessible for domestic use due to its poisonous nature, was supplied to Bunty by Abdul Haji, a housekeeper. Subsequently, Bunty distributed the fake Oxytocin bottles to Suresh Kumar Gupta, who operates a cattle feed shop in Mangalhat and other dairy establishments in and around Hyderabad.

Suresh Kumar Gupta then sold these bottles to unsuspecting farmers and dairy owners, who, in their quest to enhance milk production, administered the fake Oxytocin injections to their cattle. This practice poses serious dangers to both the animals and consumers who consume the milk. The actions of the perpetrators endangered human life.

A case has been filed against the accused individuals under Cr.No:225 /2024, invoking Sections 420, 336, 273 IPC, and Section 34 IPC, as well as Section 18© of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act at the Mangalhat police station.

Suresh Kumar Gupta had previously been implicated in a similar case under Cr.No.122/2018, involving Sections 273, 420 IPC, and Section 18© of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 at the Habeeb Nagar police station.

The raid and subsequent arrests were carried out by Inspector S. Bala Swamy, Sub-Inspector S. Sai Kiran, Inspector of Police M. Mahesh, and the staff of Manghalhat police station, Hyderabad.
