Industry To Observe October 10 As ‘CGMP Day’ Every Year

Chennai : From this year onwards the drug manufacturers in the country will celebrate October 10 as ‘cGMP Day’ every year to sensitize the public that the industry is fully adhering to the aspect of quality assurance of the medicinal products they are manufacturing.

In India the organizing part of the celebration will be taken forward by the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) and for the first time the coming October 10 will be observed as the cGMP Day or the current Good Manufacturing Practices Day by the IDMA.

All over India, wherever IDMA has a presence, the Day will be observed by the industry persons by conducting seminars, panel discussions and public meetings. However, the idea to celebrate a Day for cGMP compliances was mooted by the Manipal College of Pharmacy in Karnataka and they will organize the first meeting at the college on October 10 morning, said Dr. SV Veeramani, past president of IDMA.

The national president of the IDMA, Dr. Viranchi Shah from Gujarat, the Drug Controller General of India Dr. Rajivsingh Raghuvanshi from Delhi, Chairman of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council Dr. S V Veeramani from Hyderabad and leaders of IDMA of all state boards will attend the first meeting to be held in Manipal. The ADC of Udupi, Dr S Vidya and other regulatory officers of south Kannada will also participate at the celebration function.

He said all state boards of the IDMA will conduct seminars and discussions on the day in respective areas by inviting regulatory officials and the public. All over the country 22 seminars are in the planning.

Talking to Pharmabiz, the chairman of the TN IDMA, J Jayaseelan said CDSCO is making all attempts to make a uniform quality upgradation throughout the country by way of new Schedule M upgradation. As part of it experts on cGMP will speak on GMP standards in all the seminars and workshops organized by the central regulator. On the lines of this, the industry wants to give awareness to the public about the quality aspects and decided to observe a day for current good manufacturing practices.

In Tami Nadu, the state board of the IDMA will host panel discussions and seminars in Chennai and members of all industrial units will be invited to attend the programme. The association is working on the programs and more details will be shared later, said Jayaseelan.
