No customs duty exemptions for specified, life-saving drugs: Govt

Mumbai

In an attempt to boost its ‘Make in India’ campaign, the government has withdrawn customs duty exemptions for specified drugs and life saving drugs.
Sources tell CNBC-TV18 that customs duty ranging from 16 to 20 percent will be imposed on the drugs. The duty has been levied in consultations with the department of pharmaceuticals under the ministry of health. Earlier the government had hiked the import duty on medical devices from 5 percent to 7.5 percent.
