Overpriced ‘CYLET-2.5 Tablets’ For Cancer Treatment Seized

Hyderabad: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration seized overpriced medicine, ‘CYLET-2.5 Tablets’ (Letrozole Tablets IP 2.5 mg), primarily used in the treatment of breast cancer from a shop in Nalgonda district on Saturday.

In an official release here on Sunday, DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the product Letrozole Tablets IP 2.5 mg sold under brand name ‘CYLET-2.5 Tablets’ is under price control as per the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of the product shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.

The product ‘CYLET-2.5 Tablets’ (Letrozole Tablets IP 2.5 mg) bears MRP as Rs. 199/- for 5 tablets on the label of the product which is a violation of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. The Ceiling price fixed by the Central Government including Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the product “Letrozole Tablets IP 2.5 mg” is Rs 29.32 per one tablet (Ceiling Price). Hence Maximum Retail Price (MRP) i.e. including GST 12% should not be more than Rs. 32.84 per one tablet i.e., Rs. 164.2 per strip of 5 tablets (MRP-Ceiling Price+GST)

The firm overpriced the product. Firm charged an excess of Rs. 34.80/- per strip of 5 tablets which is a violation of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. Stocks of the medicines were seized during the raid conducted at a medical shop in Nalgonda. K. Someshwar, Drugs Inspector, Nalgonda and G. Surender, Drugs Inspector, Suryapet are among the officers who carried out the raid. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.

The prices of Essential Medicines shall be in accordance with the Ceiling Prices fixed by the Central Government. Overpricing of essential medicines is a violation under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, and stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators.
