Police Seized 500 Cough Syrup & 1200 Sedative Injections In Bargarh

Bargarh: Police have seized around 500 bottles of cough syrup and 1200 sedative injections and arrested one person in this connection in Odisha’s Bargarh town.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Satyajit Kandelkar, IIC of Bargarh Town police station, said the seizure was made during a raid by the police.

He said Bargarh Town police received specific information from reliable sources about smuggling of narcotic substances in the town. As per the information, a team from the police station conducted a raid on a house in Malapada in the town.

During the raid, the police seized around 500 bottles of banned cough syrup bottles, over 1200 sedative injections, a huge quantity of sedative medicines and Rs 50,000 in cash. They also arrested a person, identified as Bulu Sahu, from the house.

“The seized cough syrup, sedative injections and tablets had been procured to be sold as sedative in the town. We are doing further investigation to ascertain involvement of others in the racket,” said the IIC.

It may be noted that police had seized 1,349 bottles of cough syrup worth Rs 4 lakh and arrested two persons in Paikamal of Bargarh district on June 24.

On May 26, around 1200 bottles of cough syrup were seized while being transported illegally and 3 persons arrested in this connection in neighbouring Balangir district.
