Restrictions Imposed On Open And Uncontrolled Sale Of Drugs Used For Drug Addiction

Hanumangarh:  Open and uncontrolled sale of drugs used for intoxication has been banned in Hanumangarh. District Collector and District Magistrate Kanaram issued an order on Thursday to prevent drug abuse. This important decision has been taken for the bright future of the youth under the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

According to the order, some medicines in the district, which are not defined as intoxicants under the NDPS Act, are being used for intoxication in the form of tablets or injections. These include medicines such as Pregabalin, Tapentadol, Zopiclone salt based. These are also called Signature, Jodier, Green Parrot, Orange, Green Capsule and Blue Ford in the local language.

Now wholesale and retail drug sellers or other unauthorized persons or firms will not buy and sell medicines of more than 75 mg of Pregabalin. These medicines cannot be sold without a purchase-sale bill. Wholesale drug sellers will maintain a daily stock register of all purchases and sales of these medicines along with the batch number. Its date-wise information will have to be sent every week to the e-mail ID of the Superintendent of Police office. Retail drug sellers will sell them only by marking their seal and date on the original prescription/slip of the doctor.

Instructions for surprise inspection

As per the orders of the District Collector and District Magistrate, the Assistant Drug Controller will check the monthly report of purchase and sale of salt based medicines of wholesale and retail drug sellers. The Assistant Drug Controller will conduct surprise inspections of medical stores by forming teams in mutual coordination with the concerned Sub-Divisional Officer and Police Department. The District Collector and District Magistrate will be informed about the actual situation.

Violation of the order and irregularities can prove costly for medical stores. The police administration or the subdivision officer will take action to punish under Section 223 of the Indian Code of Justice. This order will be effective from 18 September 2024 for the next 2 months.
