Small & Medium hospitals in India may soon go plastic free

New Delhi: Responding to PM Modi’s appeal to banish single use plastic from India, Monga Medical Centre in Delhi becomes the first hospital to be plastic free. As Dr V K Monga, the proprietor of this Multi Speciality hospital and also the chairman of IMA Hospital Board of India is leading from the front and coaxing nearly 70,000 of small and medium hospitals under his leadership to make PM Modi’s wish a reality.

At his behest, at least hospitals in Delhi and NCR may soon follow suit. Talking to Medicare News, Dr V.K.Monga, former Chairman, Health Committee, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, said, ‘I have declared Monga Medical Centre out of bounds for single use plastic. It is certainly the first hospital in Delhi and probably the first in India as well.’

A notice in the hospital reads- Monga Medical center is a plastic Free Zone. All staff, patients and guests are requested not to bring any single use plastic in its premises. There are guards on the gates to stop the entry of single use plastic. They make rounds to find if any single use plastic has sneaked in.

Dr Monga further said he will not rest on this. He will make utmost efforts to make those hospitals which are members of IMA Hospital Board of India, become plastic free. He has consistently been organizing rallies and workshops in schools to promote PM’s fervent call. He is planning to run a very intense social media campaign to integrate doctors, patients and hospitals to rally around this cause. He said he is writings letters to hospitals, doctors and even calling them to go achieve this.

Dr Monga is pursuing intensely to turn whole Krishna Nagar, his assembly constituency, plastic free. He is a very influential BJP leader and is a dyed in wool supporter of PM Modi. He has also fought assembly election from Krishna Nagar constituency.

Dr Monga said my slogan is Bhag plastic Bhag.
