Three arrested for illegal sale of MTP kits

The police have arrested three individuals involved in the illegal sale of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits. The accused were distributing the kits online and through physical pharmacies.

The matter came to light when a nodal officer of MTP informed the police on February 7 about the illicit sale via a website. A drug control officer ordered an MTP kit through the website and it was delivered illegally. Following this, two separate FIRs were filed on Tuesday against the website operator and the two pharmacy operators at the Sector 40 police station.

On Wednesday, the police arrested the accused — Apoorv Upadhyay, the website operator from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh; Satyam Tripathi, a pharmacy operator from Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh; and Vipul Tyagi, another pharmacy operator from Loni Road, Delhi. Apoorv Upadhyay was arrested in Badaun, while the two pharmacy operators were detained in Ghaziabad. The investigation continues, with authorities also looking into the company that supplied the kits.
