1798 Cough Syrup Bottles Seized, 2 Smugglers Arrested

Kaimur:  Police recovered a consignment of banned cough syrup from a car in Kaimur on Thursday. Two people travelling in the car have been arrested. Both the accused have been identified as Vikram Biswas, son of Vijay Biswas of Adityapur village in West Bengal and Sakkan, son of Akshay Sheikh of Sagar Pada village in Murshidabad district.

The police seized a total of 1798 pieces of cough syrup. Both the accused work to deliver consignments of cough syrup containing codeine from Bengal to Bihar.

In fact, after the liquor ban in Bihar, the demand for cough syrup has increased rapidly among the drug addicts. In view of this, the government has banned cough syrup containing codeine in Bihar. But smugglers, taking advantage of the situation, try to transport the cough syrup to different districts of Bihar.

Giving information, Kaimur Excise Superintendent Santosh Kumar Srivastava said that vehicles were being checked at the Integrated Check Post Mohania. Then a car with a West Bengal number plate arrived and there were two people including the driver in it. When the car was searched, a large quantity of cough syrup containing codeine, which is banned in Bihar, was recovered.

Both the accused have been arrested and sent to jail. The police are busy investigating the entire case.
