44 health & wellness sub-centres will be set up in Nilgiris, says Union minister

Udhagamandalam: Union minister of state Pon. Radhakrishnan inaugurated a Health and Wellness Centre, a first-of-its-kind in the hill district, at Jagathala village near Coonoor on Sunday.

Pointing out that India stands first when it comes to health and hygiene among all the countries in the world, Radhakrishnan said, “Forty-four health and wellness sub-centres will be established in the Nilgiris district soon.”.

“As part of universal health covering programme, all the primary health centres will be converted into health and wellness centres and the centres will provided 24/7 service to the public. The centres will provide 12 integrated health services, including family health, ENT, paediatric among others,” he said.

“About eight crore toilets have been constructed in the country in the last four years. Only six crore toilets were built in the previous 60 years,” the minister said.

Nilgiris collector J Innocent Divya and deputy director (health) S Porkodi attended the event.
