20kg heroin seized in Amritsar, 17-year-old boy among 4 arrested

Amritsar:  The anti-narcotics task force (ANTF) of Punjab Police, in a joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF), seized 19.98kg heroin and apprehended four people, including a juvenile and a key operative managing the drug’s supply chain from Pakistan, said Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

Police teams have also seized a Maruti Brezza car and two motorcycles from the accused, the DGP said.

Yadav said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were linked to Pakistan-based handlers and coordinated the delivery and distribution of drug consignments across the region. “Further investigation is underway to identify cross-border handlers, trace supply routes, and dismantle the entire network,” he said.

The arrested men have been identified as Sahibjit Singh alias Sahib and Rajwinder Singh alias Golu, both residents of Old Naraingarh in Amritsar; Ashu Sharma alias Ashu, a resident of Chheharta in Amritsar; and a 17-year-old boy from Amritsar.
ANTF (border range) SP Gurpreet Singh said reliable information was received that the accused went towards the border area to retrieve a heroin consignment smuggled via drone.

Acting swiftly on the input, a joint team of ANTF and BSF laid a naka at a strategic location and intercepted all four accused along with the car used in the crime, he said.

The SP said based on the disclosures of the arrested accused persons, a joint search operation was conducted at Ghogga border outpost, falling under the jurisdiction of Bhindi Saidan police station, Amritsar. During the search, 19.98kg heroin, packed in five packets, was found in the fields near Bhindi Aulakh village, he said.

An FIR has been registered at ANTF police station in SAS Nagar.
