Durg-Bhilai: An engineer in Durg first created a fake company by tampering with documents. Then, he began sourcing drugs used for drug abuse from other companies and selling them. However, he obtained a valid GST number for this purpose.
Police have now arrested Vaibhav Khandelwal (30), a resident of Banshi Bihar Borsi. They seized over 17,000 narcotic pills and 12 syrups from the accused. The accused himself used to consume these pills. He also has a prior criminal record. The incident occurred in the Mohan Nagar police station area.
Engineer Vaibhav first created a fake firm in 2022 by altering documents online. He obtained a GST number in that firm’s name. The GST number is valid. Then, using the fake firm and license, he went to the IndiaMart website and registered himself as a B2B seller.
He sourced the drugs directly from drug manufacturers and business-to-business platforms like India Mart, made payments online through an e-account, and then sold them locally.
Police investigations revealed that the accused, Vaibhav, had registered himself under the name “Vaibhav Pharma Cital.” He portrayed himself as such a capable businessman that even major companies agreed to supply him with medicines. He also sourced medicines from other states, including Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the accused has connections with drug dealers in several states, including Chhattisgarh. He operated the network online. Police are now investigating the accused’s entire network and supply chain.
Police seized 17,208 narcotic tablets and 12 syrups of various brands from the accused, including Zebiscon syrup, Pinoplus, Alprazolam, Nitroten, Nictor, and Nitrazepam.
A mobile phone was also recovered from the accused. According to police, the accused himself used these drugs and made huge profits by supplying them to young people.
The accused engineer stockpiled goods from companies and then sold them to his contacts. He stored the entire stock of medicines in his flat. Police said the accused’s mobile data, bank statements, and e-banking records have been recovered and are being investigated.
Some names are emerging, but they are not being disclosed for security reasons. Further investigation may lead to more significant revelations in a day or two.
Police said that a similar case had occurred some time ago in the Mohan Nagar police station area. In that case, banned drugs were seized during a raid in Rajasthan. Vaibhav Khandelwal was the main accused in that case as well.
The police registered Crime No. 326/2025 against the accused and took action under sections 8, 22(c), and 27(a) of the NDPS Act. On September 17, the accused was arrested and presented before the CJM Court in Durg.
The accused has already been jailed in several cases.
- In 2017, a case was registered at Mohan Nagar police station under sections 294, 506, 323, 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
- Crime under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code at Durg Police Station in 2019.
- In 2022 and 2023, challans have been filed in serious cases of NDPS Act in Mohan Nagar police station area.
