Hoshiarpur (Punjab): In a major drug bust, Punjab’s Hoshiarpur police arrested six suspects and seized 23,600 intoxicant capsules, 33,800 pills, and Rs 10 lakh cash, believed to be drug proceeds, an official said on Friday.
The drugs were allegedly being smuggled from Agra to Hoshiarpur through courier services.
Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sarbjit Singh Bahia said the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) raided a cloth shop in local Mohalla Jagatpura on September 21 and seized 2,400 intoxicant capsules, 17,000 intoxicant pills, and Rs 5 lakh in drug money.
The shop owner, Ajay Walia, was arrested under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Walia had allegedly smuggled the narcotics from Rahul Yadav of Agra (UP), using various courier services under fake firm names.
Based on Ajay Walia’s confessions, it was discovered that he had allegedly supplied narcotics to Avtar Singh, a medical store owner from Jia Sahota, and Karamjit Singh, alias Ajay, from local Kirti Nagar. Both were subsequently arrested.
Karamjit Singh revealed that he had allegedly supplied narcotics to Chaindeep Singh, his brother Rajinder Singh, and their father Charan Singh, all residents of Tanda. The police arrested all three suspects.
Chaindeep and Rajinder Singh were running separate chemist shops in Tanda. Police raided Rajinder’s house where they seized 16,800 intoxicant pills, 19,200 intoxicant capsules and Rs 5 lakh in drug money.
