Joint op in Hanumangarh leads to seizure of controlled drug used as intoxicant

Jaipur: A joint operation by drug control officers and Hanumangarh police Monday led to the seizure of 13,400 capsules containing Pregabalin, a controlled compound used in the treatment of nerve-related conditions. Two people were arrested in this connection.

An official of the Food Safety and Drug Control Commissionerate said both accused were selling these drugs illegally for use as intoxicants. The value of the seized drugs was reported to be Rs 2.3 lakh.

Pregabalin is commonly used for the treatment of neurological pain, epilepsy and anxiety disorder, and comes with a range of side effects, including depression, fatigue, weight gain, muscle pain and heart disease, the official said.

State drug controller (I) Ajay Phatak said that Monday’s seizure was part of efforts to curb drug trafficking and narcotic activities across the state. All assistant drug controllers and drug control officers in the state have been directed to intensify operations against trafficking in collaboration with the police, he added.

Phatak also appealed to the public for any information they could share relating to the illegal trade of banned drugs and narcotics.
