3 Students Of IIIT-NR Get Patent For Body Temp Tech Using Smart Phone

Raipur: Three students of the International Institute of Information Technology Naya Raipur (IIIT-NR) have been granted a patent titled ‘System and Method’ for determining body temperature using a smart phone by the Patent Office, Government of India. The innovation involves the integration of a smart phone with a USB thermal camera to accurately determine the body temperature, even in groups.

The three students, Divyansh Kushwaha, Deepanshu Pratik and Shivanshu Kumar Prajapati were granted a patent for their project completed under the guidance of Assistant Professor (ECE) Dr Srivishal Tripathi, said an official.

During the Covid-19 pandemic a problem was faced worldwide of real-time body temperature measurement of individuals for differentiating them based on their own body temperature. To address the challenge, students of IIIT-NR decided to work on inventing a rapid and reliable method for the problem. Hence, they came up with a cost-effective and user-friendly solution.

Traditional methods used for body temperature measurement during COVID-19, including thermal guns and alternatives like Radio Frequency (RF)-based and thermal infrared cameras, prove to be time-consuming, unsafe and lack scalability.

IIIT-NR Director Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha congratulated the students and the faculty and said that the focus of IIIT-NR has been to strengthen its research in the areas of agriculture, forestry, rural development, and healthcare. He also motivated students to carry out research in areas which will solve real world problems, added the official.
