Foundation’s multifarious activities are touching millions of lives
New Delhi: Compassion has been the core value for Dr. Azad Moopen, chairman, Aster DM Healthcare from the word go. It consolidated all the more in the company of late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the erstwhile president of India. So, Dr. Moopen is now also the conscience keeper of Kalam Saab.
Dr. Moopen’s Foundation, created for altruism, is a veritable fountainhead of compassion for poor patients of the society. One remembers the words of late president Kalam when he was inaugurating his Kochi Aster Medcity hospital few months before his death. He said he agreed to inaugurate only after getting undertaking from Dr. Moopen that he would not lose sight of his social commitment through his healthcare biz and compassion would be his abiding core value.
But long before he gave this undertaking to Kalam Saab, the gem of a soul, Dr. Moopen had already earned the reputation of being ‘Humanitarian Extraordinaire’. When this NRI from Kerala, operating from Dubai, got Padma Shri Award in 2011, he gave proof enough that his business venture is only an instrument for social service. Following day, in his thanksgiving press conference in Delhi, Dr. Moopen declared that 20 percent of his personal wealth, which is enormous, goes for the treatment of poor patients. Dr. Moopen, MD, Managing Trustee, Aster DM Foundation, invests liberally in serving poor patients ever since.
Talking to Medicare News on the occasion of Aster media Award, Dr. Mupen said, ‘Ours is a caring mission with a global vision. Our tagline is –‘We’ll Treat You Well’. We would never let hope sink for poor patients of the society. We carry the conviction-‘Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness’.
Dr. Moopen’s Foundation, its CSR arm, is touching millions of Indian lives through its philanthropic activities. One of them, ‘Save The Little Hearts’ initiative, under his healing touch project, got rave reviews in the media. Hundreds of thousands of children worldwide are born with defective hearts. More than 750 such children have received free treatment under this scheme.
His other activities include community dialyses centres, free and subsidised surgeries; Doctor on wheels, village adoption, and special needs school et al.
The foundation supports different programs that address marginalized populations and advance social justice, women and youth empowerment, human health consciousness and the environment. His Foundation is doing exemplary corporate social responsibility DM Healthcare has floated ‘Aster Media Awards’ as part of its social responsibility.
