Crackdown on Unlicensed Medical Stores in Sultanpur: Medicines Worth Rs 3.86 Lakh Seized

Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh In a decisive move to enforce drug regulations, a joint team of drug inspectors raided two unlicensed medical firms in Sultanpur on Monday, seizing medicines valued at approximately Rs 3.86 lakh and halting operations at one of the sites. The action, targeting illegal storage and distribution, was triggered by intelligence on the procurement of codeine-containing syrups from a supplier in Sitapur.
The raids focused on Vinod Pharma, operated by Vinod Kumar in the Parkeensganj area, where authorities discovered a large stock of medicines ready for sale and distribution. The firm was running without a valid drug license under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act—one license was being misused for two separate shops, and the operator failed to produce documentation for the second outlet. No banned substances, including the suspected Fencipic T Syrup (a codeine-based product supplied by Naimish Dham Medical Store in Atwa, Sitapur), were found on site. However, two samples of medicines were collected and dispatched to a government laboratory for quality testing.
The operation was overseen by Assistant Commissioner (Drugs), Ayodhya Division, Manoj Kumar, with the inspection team comprising Drug Inspector Sultanpur Raju Prasad, Drug Inspector Ayodhya Alok Kumar Trivedi, and Drug Inspector Barabanki Razia Bano. After questioning Vinod Kumar at length, the team sealed the premises and impounded the seized stock to prevent further illegal activity.
District Drug Inspector Raju Prasad confirmed the details, stating, “During the inspection, a large number of medicines were found stocked for sale and distribution, but the firm’s drug license could not be shown. After that, medicines worth approximately Rs 3,86,816 were seized. Two samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing, and legal action will follow the report.”
No arrests were made during the raid, but authorities plan to file a formal complaint in court under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act once lab results are received. This enforcement drive underscores the Uttar Pradesh Drugs Department’s ongoing campaign to curb unlicensed operations and combat the illicit trade of addictive pharmaceuticals, particularly in the wake of recent statewide crackdowns on codeine syrup smuggling. Officials emphasized that such measures aim to safeguard public health and ensure compliance with strict licensing norms.
