DCA Seized Medicines Worth Rs 33.68 Lakhs During Raids In Kodad Of Suryapet District

HYDERABAD: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration launched a series of raids in Kodad, Suryapet District, uncovering and dismantling illegal operations involved in the stocking and sale of drugs at four distinct locations and seized stocks worth Rs. 33.68 lakhs during the raids.

DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that officials of Nalgonda Zone, acting on intelligence gathered, conducted raids on Monday (March 11, 2024) at four different locations in Kodad, Suryapet District, to bust the illegal stocking and sale of drugs.

During the raids, officers detected that Dr R. Suresh Kumar was running a medical shop illegally without a drug license at Suresh Ortho and Skin Care Hospital located at Huzurnagar Road, Kodad, Suryapet District. The officials seized stocks worth Rs. 12.30 lakhs during the raid.

Officers detected an unlicensed godown which belongs to Nutakki Vital at Azadnagar, Kodad and seized stocks worth Rs. 12.25 lakhs. At another godown maintained by ‘Sri Chennakesava Medical Corporation’ which belongs to D Kishore Babu, Azadnagar, Kodad, the officials seized stocks worth Rs. 3.04 lakhs.

DCA Officials detected huge stocks of expired drugs worth Rs. 1.31 lakhs at an unlicensed godown which belongs to Vennam Venkata Reddy, at Huzurnagar Road, Kodad and seized drugs of a total worth of Rs. 6.09 lakhs during the raid.

Rajavardhana Chary, Deputy Director, Warangal, K. Dass, Assistant Director, Nalgonda, G. Prasad, Assistant Director, Khammam, G. Surender, Drugs Inspector, Suryapet, K. Someshwar, Drugs Inspector, Nalgonda, A. Balakrishna, Drugs Inspector, Jangaon, J. Ashwin Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Ch. Anil Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Khammam Urban and J. Kiran, Drugs Inspector, Hanumakonda are among the officers who carried out the raids at four locations in Kodad.

DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders. Wholesalers/Dealers who supply medicines to such unlicensed entities, who are stocking and selling drugs without a drug license, are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and stringent action shall be taken against such Wholesalers/Dealers. Wholesalers/Dealers shall mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them.

The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to five years.
