Indian Rubber Gloves Association Calls For Ban On Chlorinated Gloves

Mumbai: Industry body Indian Rubber Gloves Manufacturers Association (IRGMA) on Wednesday called for a ban on the import of chlorinated gloves. The aim is to improve safety in hospitals and protect healthcare professionals.

“The time has come to curb spurious imports and the use of chlorinated gloves, which are detrimental to the health of both healthcare providers and patients. Firm actions are needed to stop the circulation and import of these harmful gloves,” stated IRGMA president Sunil Patwari.

IRGMA also suggested that government hospitals procure gloves through the Government e Marketplace (GeM) with BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) approval, aligning with the implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO).

Patwari emphasized the serious safety and health risks from the continued import of inferior examination gloves.

He noted that several countries, including the US and those in Europe, have banned powdered, coated Nitrile Gloves.

“BIS-approved gloves are readily available and can be conveniently procured, as many certified companies are capable of supplying quality products to hospital staff,” he added.
