Jaipur/Kota— In a significant move to strengthen patient safety and improve healthcare delivery in government hospitals, Kota district in-charge secretary Dr. Ravi Kumar Surpur has directed the immediate preparation and effective implementation of a Risk Management Framework in New Medical College Kota and its associated hospitals.
Chairing a meeting of the Medical College Principal, hospital superintendents, and department heads at New Medical College Kota on Sunday, Dr. Surpur stressed the need for strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for patient treatment and care. He called for the development of clear protocols covering Operation Theatre sterilisation, patient monitoring, referral mechanisms, and overall infection control.
Key Directives Issued
Dr. Surpur instructed all department heads to submit suggestions for preparing comprehensive protocols to ensure proper patient care and treatment. These protocols, he said, must include specific guidelines on:
- Sterilisation of Operation Theatres
- Continuous monitoring of patients
- Efficient referral systems
- Regular maintenance of equipment in Operation Theatres and ICUs
- Calibration and sterilisation of laboratory instruments
He further directed that all hospitals maintain regular cleaning schedules and pay close attention to patient amenities. Special emphasis was laid on keeping Operation Theatres completely infection-free to eliminate any risk of post-operative infections.
Focus on Queue Management and Staff Sensitivity
The in-charge secretary also stressed the importance of proper queue management in OPDs to prevent long waiting times for patients. He urged all faculty members, medical staff, and nursing personnel to work with greater sensitivity so that any untoward incident can be prevented through timely intervention.
Dr. Surpur directed that regular mock drills be conducted in accordance with Blood Bank protocols and other safety standards. He also called for regular monitoring of critical support systems, including power backup, lift operations, hospital kitchen, and housekeeping services. Ensuring the availability of essential medicines was another key instruction issued to all officials.
SOP Implementation Underway
Following the directives, Principal and Controller of New Medical College Kota, Dr. Nilesh Jain, informed that a General SOP has already been issued at the medical college level after compiling procedure-specific SOPs from all departments. He said the associated hospitals would implement these guidelines in a time-bound manner.
Broader Instructions for Lower-Level Facilities
Dr. Surpur also directed that Operation Theatre cleaning and other treatment protocols be followed at Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Community Health Centre (CHC) levels. He emphasised that hospital superintendents must ensure safe and proper treatment for every patient by analysing relevant data and reports.
The meeting was attended by heads of various departments and senior officials of the associated hospitals.
