PM Modi takes first dose of Covid-19 vaccine at Delhi’s AIIMS

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Delhi’s AIIMS.

“Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against Covid-19. I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India Covid-19 free!,” the PM said in a tweet after taking the Covid shot.

India is set to enter the second phase of Covid-19 vaccinations on Monday, when registrations will open at 9am for senior citizens (60 years and above) and those aged 45 to 60 years with comorbidities. The expansion of the vaccine drive aims to cover a total of 30 crore “priority” population at a crucial juncture when several states are witnessing an upswing in cases.

For getting the shot, eligible people will have to register on the COWIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications.

A person can register as many as four beneficiaries with a single mobile number. However, the beneficiaries would have to produce identity proofs separately.

The government has listed seven photo identity documents which can be used for online registration: Aadhaar Card/Letter, Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC), Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, NPR Smart Card and Pension Document with photograph.

Meanwhile, the vaccination is being provided at 10,000 government medical facilities and over 20,000 private hospitals.
