Seven state-of the-art common infra facilities to come up at Ujjain Medical Devices Park

Indore:  Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) is developing seven state-of-the-art common infrastructure facilities at the Medical Devices Park in Ujjain to strengthen technology advancement and research for existing and upcoming industries.

The proposed infrastructure aims to help manufacturers reduce production costs, access advanced testing and design support, and speed up product development.

The facilities being developed include a biomedical devices testing lab, a 3D printing and prototype development centre, a plastic processing and component testing unit, a tool room for mould and dye development, an electromagnetic compatibility testing lab, and an ethylene oxide gas-based sterilisation unit.

An incubation hub for startups equipped with IT, IPR, regulatory, and small-scale manufacturing and testing support will also be set up.

MPIDC, Ujjian region executive director Rajesh Rathod, said the upcoming facilities will make Ujjain a key centre for innovation and technology exchange in medical and engineering sectors. He said, “These centres will provide advanced testing, design, and development support to industries and startups, enabling them to meet international standards and reduce dependency on external facilities.”

The biomedical testing lab will conduct advanced tests such as biocompatibility, physico-chemical and mechanical testing of biomaterials, micro and sterility testing, sensitisation assays, irritation, and acute systemic toxicity tests.

The 3D printing and prototype development centre will offer 3D scanning, rapid prototype printing and mould and implant design. The plastic processing and component testing unit will handle assembly, packaging, and mechanical testing of polymer material using advanced equipment such as leak testers, tensile testers, and hardness analysers.

Tool room and mold development lab will focus on creating moulds for implants, dies for injection moulding, and vacuum cast moulds. The EMI and EMC testing lab will conduct electromagnetic and electrical safety tests, while the ETO sterilisation unit will provide gas-based sterilisation for medical-grade devices.

The Medical Devices Park spans 360 acre, with 201 acre marked for allotment. So far, 66 industries have secured around 178 acre, proposing investments worth Rs 2,899 crore and generating over 11,000 jobs.
