Unlicensed medical device stock worth Rs. 4.47 lakh seized in Gurugram raid

In a significant crackdown on the illegal sale of medical equipment, a team of drug control officers in Haryana conducted a high-profile raid at a private firm in Gurugram on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

Acting on a secret complaint, officials inspected Lenscare Vision Pvt. Ltd., situated at Flat No. G-156, Palam Vihar Extension. The operation aimed to verify allegations that the facility was selling medical devices without the mandatory sale and import licenses required by national regulations.

The enforcement team, consisting of Amandeep Chauhan, Dr. Suresh Kumar, and Mukesh Kumar, arrived at the premises to find Raju Kumar, owner of the facility, who was present. When asked to provide the necessary legal paperwork for the business operations, he failed to produce any valid documentation or licenses. This lack of compliance prompted a thorough inventory of the stock kept on-site to determine the scale of the unauthorized trade.

During the inspection, officials identified 20 different types of medical devices that were being held for sale. These items, which included various optical devices like eye lenses, were found to be in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act due to the absence of proper authorization. The total value of the stock recovered during the operation was estimated at Rs. 4,47,241, indicating a significant volume of unregulated commerce.

Following the discovery, the team officially seized the inventory using Form MD-35, the designated legal document for the confiscation of medical devices. Authorities emphasized that selling such devices without verified import and sale licenses poses a serious risk to the public, as the quality and safety of the equipment cannot be guaranteed through unregulated channels. The seized items have been taken into custody as evidence for the ongoing investigation.

Lalit Kumar Goel, state drug controller of Haryana said that the department is now initiating further legal proceedings against Lenscare Vision Pvt. Ltd. under the provisions of the drugs act. This raid serves as a stern warning to unauthorized distributors in the region, as health officials continue to tighten monitoring of the medical supply chain to ensure that all healthcare products meet strict safety and quality standards
