Wrong medicine without a prescription, 5-month-old infant died: FIR against Medical store owner

Mauganj:  In Mauganj, Madhya Pradesh, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against a medical store owner on Sunday after a 5-month-old infant died from being given the wrong medicine without a prescription. The news was reported by Dainik Bhaskar, which stated that the incident occurred in the Khatkhari area of the district.

Family members of the deceased child identified the parents as Shweta Yadav, and reported that the infant was normal and even smiling upon arrival at the store’s clinic. According to the relatives, the child passed away within half an hour of consuming the medicine provided by the store owner.

The relatives allege that the child’s death was a direct result of the medicine being administered without a proper doctor’s diagnosis or prescription, highlighting medical negligence. The tragic incident spurred outrage among villagers, who have raised concerns about a lack of proper healthcare facilities and supervision over medical stores in the area. Following the villagers’ complaints and the child’s death, the police registered an FIR against the medical store owner.

As ND TV reported “According to the family, when the mother arrived with the child, the medical store owner was not there, but her son was present. He administered three syrups to the child, and after a while, the child’s condition suddenly deteriorated, and he eventually died. Following the child’s death, the family made serious allegations against the clinic operator.

Mauganj Collector Sanjay Kumar Jain stated that Vinod Medical Store operator Jitendra Kumar Gupta administered the medication to the child without a doctor’s prescription. This was considered serious negligence and the medical store has been sealed. An FIR has been filed against the accused shopkeeper, Jitendra Kumar Gupta, and the police are taking action in the case.

According to the report, the entire incident was investigated by Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Sanjeev Shukla and SDM Hanuman Rashmi Chaturvedi, and the child’s mother and family were also interviewed. The child was treated by Dr. Mansoori Khan in Mauganj, but he did not get relief.

The Madhya Pradesh Directorate of Health Services took the matter seriously and directed the Mauganj Collector to take strict action. Following this, a medical team is conducting a detailed investigation. Appropriate action will be taken if anyone is found guilty. He added that samples of the drugs have been taken and sent to a forensic lab for testing.”
